SIOC (pronounced “shock”) stands for Semantically Interlinked Online Communities. It’s the emerging standard for distributing forum and blog discussions, if I’m understanding it right. Considering the possibilities of this, I think of trackbacks on steroids.

I think the C in SIOC is a little misleading.

Thanks for the post. Actually, while SIOC started out describing the posts in discussion forums around which online communities are formed, last year we added more generic terms for use in other Web 2.0 community sites - Container, Item, Community, Space, etc.
In fact, as a representation method, we’re now looking at how it can be used to represent both personal and community content. See example at:
